It is times like these that you count your blessings. Society puts such pressure on people to make more money and have more things. However, many people dont understand how truly blessed they are until they hear of someone else's unfortunate events.
Within the last 24 hours, I received two emails that made me realize how truly blessed are my husband and I. Yesterday morning started off with an email from a coworker stating that his 6-year old son's luekemia was not in remission but his son was placed in the high risk category and would be needing 10 months of chemo. He is stable at this moment but has a very long and tiring road ahead of him and his family.
Later that night, I received a very sad email from someone I had been in contact with last year. She had emailed me about leaving several CF related lists as her husband was in critical condition for a double lung transplant. He received his gift of life shortly after (August 2006) and, it is with regret that I read the next line stating that he passed in her arms and at home on December 6, 2006.
So many people are worried about how much money they make or how big their house/car. They never stop to think about the lack of time they spend with their families and friends until they are in a life or death situation. Worse, most people have their loved ones taken away when they thought that person would never die. It is unfortunate that it takes times like these to bring us back to reality and remind us of how precious life is and how we should not take it for granted. I wish there were an easier reminder or the ability to not take such things for granted. Since there is none, please take this time to tell the people in your life how much they are loved and please, please, please, just take the time to be in their lives - fully - with all of your being. For we never know what tomorrow holds... so we must live in this very moment.
